My work engages the space where my experiences merge with the unknown.

Findings is a new body work that began in April 2009. Before I started this new undertaking I concluded two important bodies of work. The first was called Drawing Correspondence, a collaboration with artist Paul Rodecker. This mixed-media mail-art project used two identical journals as a way to communicate through marks and imagery. The second was a series of works on paper where I used both hands simultaneously to draw. This binary approach to mark making was a response to working with sound recordings and a way to incorporate a more physical and visceral expression of line and composition in my work.

In the work for Findings I build the composition in sections cut from larger pieces of paper placed over the drawing. The cut shapes create a window through which only a certain portion of the drawing is visible. I work inside the window until I believe that the section is resolved and then I move the cut shape to a different part of the drawing and begin again. I repeat these steps until I feel the drawing is finished.

The drawings that result from this process have no definite visual thought pattern; instead they sway between recognizable parts and improbable landscapes. Looking at these works I am taken on a journey. One that hurries, slams, turns, and halts in a reverse upside down confusion whose order lurks in the steady rhythm of its seeking.
